William “Bill” J. Lauckner, age 82, of Nashua Montana passed at the family farm in near Nashua, Montana on February 12, 2026
Bill was born September 7, 1943 in Glasgow, Montana to William A. and Hilda (Beer) Lauckner. At the age of 12 he became his dad’s hired man. As a third generation farmer he spent long days on the tractor: there was no cabs, no air conditioner, no heater and heaven forbid there was no GPS. Farming was his life, many long days and nights were spent in the field, along with running a few cows. Bill took over the farm from his dad in 1967. Bill married the love of his life, Myrna Anderson, on June 18, 1966.
After he graduated from Nashua High School in 1961, he served in the National Guard for 8 years. He would laugh and say I went in as a cook and came out a tank driver. Over his lifetime he served on many boards including: Farmers Union Elevator, Farm Credit, Valley County 4-H Council and was a 4-H Leader for 30 years, where he loved working with the kids in shooting sports, wildlife, leathercraft and doing summer camp. If you showed up after school at his home you might hear a tap, tap, tap, as the kids were busy doing their leather projects in the basement. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Bill was member of the Mountain Bluebird Trails and was an active district coordinator. He has a bluebird trail at the Pines and another on Highway 24, which consists of 83 boxes. His getaway time was going to check on the bluebirds. He loved his Bluebirds.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman, who loved running his trap line in the fall, but as the years went by he took an easier route by skinning for a local trapper, with whom he became very good friends.
Bill’s pride and joy was his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved watching them grow and attending their activities.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna of 59 years; son, Will (Peggy) Lauckner; daughter, Gwyn (Steve) Funk; brother Andy (Jamie) Lauckner; grandchildren: Tyson and Willy Lauckner, Mykayla (Tucker) Lien, Kelcey (Jake) Knaff , Teona Funk, Brady (Matt) Brooks and Megan (Dustin) Pankratz; great-grandkids: Colt, Newt and Flint Knaff, Brodi, Renly and Chet Saiz, Cooper, Wilie and Augustus Pankratz and Bridger and Houston Brooks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Hilda and Bill; sisters, Helen and Bob Heikens and Josephine and John Dorsey and granddaughters, Tori Arnold and Julia Funk.
Family will receive friends 3 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Bell Mortuary in Glasgow, Montana.
