Virginia W. Plouffe age 94, of Wolf Point, MT passed away on May 25, 2017 at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, MT. Virginia was born August 21, 1922 fifty four miles north of Malta, MT on the family homestead. She was the youngest of ten children born to Loretta (Williams) Smith and Lee M. Smith. Virginia attended school in Lowrane and Loring then graduated from Malta High School and later in life attended some classes in Bozeman.
Virginia married John H. Plouffe on June 12, 1942 in Malta. They farmed east of Malta and in 1953 moved to Wolf Point and continued farming in Malta for several years. John passed away on December 20, 1989.
Virginia went to work at the Roosevelt County Clerk and Recorders office in 1963 and on January 1, 1971 she started her job as Roosevelt County Treasurer, retiring December 31, 1994. While Roosevelt County Treasurer she served two terms as president of the Montana State Treasurer Association and twelve years as chairperson for the Seven County Treasurers Association, she was appointed to a two-year term on the Board of Directors of MASBO.
The most important thing in her life was her family and friends who she loved dearly. Virginia’s hobbies were writing poetry and painting, when she was not playing cards.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; two sons, Jerry John and Dan Edward; seven sisters, two brothers and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Diana (Robert) Nygard of Fort Peck, MT; a daughter-in-law, Artie Plouffe of Findlay, OH; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
