Stanley Dean Ackerman Sr., age 60, of Frazer passed away at his home in Frazer after a year and a half battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.
Stanley was born November 18, 1958 in Poplar to Wilbert Ackerman and Isabelle Runs Through. His Indian name means Sacred Lodge Keeper. He grew up, went to school and spent most of his life in Frazer. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, rode horses and played basketball. He and some great friends had a team- the Frazer Coyotes! Stanley married Lori Burshia and together they had 6 kids; Katie, Cassandra, Catrina, Octavia, Gretchen and Stanley Jr. These gave them 26 grandchildren -including his pride and joy, Zander Ackerman!
Stanley was a jack of all trades and could do anything he put his mind to. Two of his favorite jobs were fighting fire and working with kids at the Boys & Girls Club. He loved to make people laugh and always had a story. He shared many tales with his group of great friends; Bill Runs Above, Frank TurnToes, Rob & Sid Blount, Wilbert Keiser and Llewellyn Smoker.
Stanley got to spend the last 13 years of his life with JoBeth Johnston. They loved being together- spending time at home with their angel, Stephanie Arae, or visiting his 26 grandchildren. They loved to travel and enjoyed PBR and Las Vegas trips.
Stanley was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents- Wilbert & Kate (Little Thunder) Ackerman; his maternal grandparents- Marion Runs Through & Katie Owens; his parents- Wilbert Ackerman Sr. & Isabelle Runs Through; a brother Doug; a daughter Octavia; grandsons Gabriel Angel Garza & Gabriel Ackerman Reyna.
Other survivors include his siblings, Cordelia, Jewel, Floyd, Ray, Pick and Wanda and many nieces and nephews.
A wake will be Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the Frazer Community Hall at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Frazer Community Hall. Burial will be at Chicken Hill Cemetery, Oswego, Montana.
