Sharon Lynnette Wigness Thompson passed away on June 24, 2023, in Glasgow, Montana.
She was born on May 31, 1932, to Charlotte and Porter Wigness and raised in Fortuna, North Dakota. Sharon was the oldest of 5 children, Arden, Gerald, Alan, and Susan. She was raised in a loving extended family and Sharon always said her cousins were like her siblings.
Sharon married Kenneth Thompson on October 24, 1948, in Fortuna, North Dakota. Sharon and Kenny welcomed six children to their marriage – Cleo (deceased as an infant), Debby, Brian, Diana, Tom, and Lisa. Family was special to Sharon & Kenny. When the children were young, camping and boating at Fort Peck Lake were much-loved activities for them all.
Sharon will always be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends, her kind, gentle and giving nature and her solid faith in God. She lived her life by Micah 6: 8 “God has told you what is good; and what is it that the Lord asks of you? Only to act justly, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God”.
Sharon was always a caretaker whether it be her own children, grandchildren or anyone in need. Many a grandchild called Grandma from school when they were “sick”, knowing she would never say no.
In their early years, Kenny & Sharon ran a custom combining business together with Ken’s brother, Douglas. Sharon worked many jobs throughout her life. She was a school lunch aide at the South Side School and also worked at Glasgow’s infamous Hi Hat Drive-In for many years. In her later years, she was a companion caretaker for many elderly Glasgow residents. She loved doing this and did not think of it as a job, but more as a calling and considered it a privilege to spend time with them.
Sharon is survived by children, Debby Cornwell, Brian Thompson, Diana (Jeff) Boyle, Lisa (Robert) Legare and daughter-in-law Dawn Thompson. Sharon cherished her grandchildren, Michelle (Chad) Hoover, Cody (Juli) Cornwell, Jamie (Eric) Hafenfeld, Kirk (Britney) Cornwell, Cory (Kim) Zimmerman, Shayne (Amy) Zimmerman, Jillian (Michael) Dunstan, Rikki Boyle, Rocky (Haylee) Thompson, Brandi (Nathan Dale) Thompson, Joshua (Mandi) Thompson, Grant (Bethany) Legare, Gage (Sierra) Legare, Bryce Legare, 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband Kenny Thompson, infant daughter Cleo, son Tom Thompson, son-in-law Lynn Cornwell, great-granddaughter Devon Thompson and great-grandson Carder Johnson.
Mom-Grandma – we love and miss you greatly. Life certainly will not be the same without you. You will be in our hearts forever.
