Peter Edward Schuster

March 15, 1939 — March 19, 2016

Peter Edward Schuster, 77, of Glentana, Montana, passed peacefully from this earth on Saturday, March 19, 2016.  Pete was born in Glasgow, Montana, on March 15, 1939.  He married Joyce (Joy) Raemaeker in 1965.  He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Delia Schuster, step-mother Barbara Schuster, Sister Mae Schuster, and his granddaughter Kaylee Mae Schuster.  He is survived by his wife, Joy, of Glentana, children Paul (Kris), Rose (Bill Wadman), all of Great Falls, Andy (Rosanny) of North Carolina, Steve (Tracy) of Glentana, and Becky (Ryan Rusche) of Columbia Falls; his grandchildren Kelsie, Kasey, Kayla, Kylie, Kali, Tia, Shea, Heidy, Ian, Greg, Kerriann, Holli, Kort, Jesse, and Rafe; several great-grandchildren; siblings Babs (Jim) Burke of Ireland, Joe (Stevi) Schuster, Father Tony Schuster, all of Billings, Jerry (Theresa) Schuster of Bozeman, and Doris Doyle of Spokane, Washington.

Pete grew up in Glentana and spent some years at St. Thomas Orphans’ Home in Great Falls after his mother passed away when he was 10.  He graduated from Opheim High School in 1957.  Pete served in the Air Force from then until his father died in 1960, when Pete took over the farm in Glentana.  He was a farmer for the rest of his life.  He also earned a bachelor’s degree in Vocational Education from Northern Montana College (NMC) and taught at Mountain Plains (St. Marie), NMC, and Opheim High School.

Pete was a farmer at heart, loving family man, and faithful Catholic.  Pete and Joy prayed together every day.  He cared deeply for his students and the people of North Valley County.  He loved to learn and be of service.  Pete enjoyed music ministry with his guitar and the promise of springtime.  He was a card player, Guinness sipper with friend Lyle Walstad, poetry reciter with friend Jerry Hoffman, old tractor fixer, Tom & Jerry maker, and soft-hearted grump with an elusive, wry sense of humor.

A vigil for Pete will be held Wednesday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Parish in Glentana.  His funeral is Thursday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m. also at Holy Family with burial in Glentana Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow at the Glentana Hall.

Pete had a special interest in making sure no one went hungry.  Anyone wishing to make a memorial is asked to contribute to the Valley County Food Bank or your local food pantry.
