Nancy Marie Lierow

April 22, 1940 — August 25, 2025

Federal Way, Washington formerly of Glasgow, Montana

In her high school yearbook, it said of Nancy McPhee Lierow, that when she laughs the whole world laughs with her. Nancy was born April 22, 1940, to Shey and Rosie McPhee in Malta, Montana. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother and a friend. In all of her relationships to so many people, she loved deeply, was totally devoted and laughed…a lot!! She had a strong faith and loved Jesus.

Nancy graduated in 1958 and moved to Seattle, Washington to work for Boeing. She loved life in the city and loved to party. She missed Montana, though, and moved back and got a job at a local café “slinging hash” as she used to say. In 1960, she met a guy from Park City, Montana, who worked for the telephone company; he used to eat his meals in the café when he worked in Malta. He thought Nancy was pretty cute and asked her out for a beer when she got off work. The rest is history. Bill Lierow and Nancy McPhee got married on May 6, 1961. In June of 1962 they had their first daughter, Shelley, followed by Julie, Suzy, and Joe. This family of six moved to Glasgow in 1971, right after Joe was born after living in Lewistown previously. Nancy worked for several years selling and building ads at The Courier, followed by working at The Print Shop, but being “Mom” was her most important job. Bill passed away in 2012, and after a few more years, Nancy sold the house and moved to Billings. She loved her apartment and her new life there. She still loved to come back every summer to the cabin, which she and Bill lovingly built over many years; it still is a tranquil place for the family to gather and think of them. In 2023, because of some health issues, she moved to Washington with her daughter temporarily for medical care. Her goal was to get stronger to move back to Montana, her home. Sadly, she didn’t regain that strength and passed away on August 25, 2025, in Federal Way, Washington.

Nancy loved her family; they meant everything to her! She was close to her parents, her siblings, her in-laws, as well as her kids and grandkids. She found humor in almost everything and looked for the positive. She was easy to talk to, and she loved to laugh! She enjoyed playing games: whether board games, cards, dominoes, or online word games and was fiercely competitive. She loved sitting at her kitchen table looking out the window while enjoying a cup of coffee and some cookies…or a piece of pie…or a maple stick…or anything else that was sweet. She loved her sweets! When her doctor recently told her to eat ice cream for breakfast and after dinner, she happily obliged! She read the newspaper front to back, and when they went online, she did too. She could spend hours on her iPad or phone reading all kinds of articles, watching videos and looking at pictures on Facebook.

Nancy is survived by all four of her children: Shelley (Terry) Nakagomi of Federal Way, WA; Julie (Mark) Siverly of Glasgow, MT; Suzy (Jeff) Berglund of Midland, TX; and Joe (Amy) Lierow of Billings, MT. 13 grandchildren: Mike (Alice) Nakagomi, Sean (Nica) Nakagomi, Nathan Lierow, Luke, Shey and Naomi Siverly; Colton Berglund; and Meghan, Kyle, Kinsey, Zach, Kellen and Josie Lierow. Three great-grandchildren: Astrid and Sibyl Gordon (Siverly) and Kaito Nakagomi. Three sisters: Judy (Larry) Sowder, Linda (Eugene) Hanson, and Colleen Matoon; brother Pat Gibbs; sisters-in-law Diane Allen and Beth Haworth, brother-in-law Butch (Barb) Killion, nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins and friends. In addition to her family, Nancy will be missed by her beloved dog, Buddy, who was always by her side.

Nancy joins husband Bill, her parents, and grandchildren, Aubrey and Taylor Lierow, and Jessie Berglund in heaven.
