Jack Mccuin 88 Of Jordan Montana

August 7, 1935 — February 2, 2024

Jack Wesley McCuin, age 88 of Jordan, formerly of Saco, Montana passed away on February 2, 2024 at the Garfield County Nursing Home in Jordan, Montana.

Jack was born on August 7, 1935 in Saco, MT to Edwin Walter “Mac” and Alma (Garrison) McCuin. He was raised on the ranch 35 miles south of Saco on Larb Creek and attended school in Saco. His dad passed when he was 10 years old, which was difficult for him and the family. On September 20, 1970, he married Jan Forbes in Goblesville, Indiana. They lived on the ranch in Saco and raised their daughter, Nyoka.

He enjoyed working with a team of horses and was especially fond of Appaloosa horses and Hereford cattle. Jack also made sure he was at any horse event his daughter or granddaughters were involved in. He was proud of the fact that Libby and Paige learned how to harness a team and drive them to attend several wagon trains. His niece Becky and nephew Ernie remember Jack singing the Christmas catalog to them, along with singing nursery rhymes backwards from the last page. He taught his nephew Ernie several things about mechanics and haying the Phillips County prairie. Jack maybe wasn’t the best singer, but he did like to sing Bad Braham Bull and The Strawberry Roan when given the chance. He continued living on the ranch until 2005. He sold the ranch to Jimmy and Kelly Orahood and moved to Miles City to be closer to his daughter and granddaughters.

He was a member of the Wittmayer Grazing Association during the founding in 1970, he was one of the last old time cowboys.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Mac & Alma; his siblings: William (Bill) McCuin, Patrick McCuin, James (Wendy) McCuin, Jeanne Marinko and Mike McCuin.

He is survived by his daughter Nyoka (Jason) Twitchell of Miles City; his brother Nick McCuin of Grass Range, sister-in-law Irene McCuin of Billings; two granddaughters Libby Twitchell, Paige Twitchell of Miles City; ex-wife Jan (DJ) Cornutt and several nieces and nephews.
