Dalton J. Williams

July 31, 1999 — February 8, 2023

Dalton Jay Williams “Dagu Kokipabis” (Not Afraid) passed away on February 8, 2023 at the Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana, surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 31, 1999, to Ada Talks Different and Henry Williams. He attended Kindergarten in Frazer, Montana, and later moved to Wolf Point with his mother and brothers, William and Taylor.

Dalton was born with the condition, Pierre Robin Sequence, which affected his airway. It consists of an underdeveloped jaw, a cleft palate and the tongue being placed further back toward the throat. He went through many surgeries to correct this condition.

In grade school he was diagnosed with Asperger’s. He had difficulty communicating but eventually made many friends. During his years in school he taught himself how to make Toy Story figurines and cowboy hats that he would gift to people he loved and cherished from his classmates to the teaching staff. Dalton was a talented artist, a skilled crafter and loved all things Toy Story. He is a 2018 graduate of Wolf Point High School.

After he graduated from high school, Dalton attended Fort Peck Community College for a time and he would continue making gifts for everyone. In his beading class at the college he learned how to bead medallions and made himself a pair of moccasins. Dalton would bead medallions for his friends and family to wear to Frazer’s basketball games. He was a loyal Bearcub Fan. Later on when his cousin, Kelby Bauer, transferred to Wolf Point he did the same for his friends and family there. It was then that he finally became a fan of the Wolf Point Wolves.

Dalton loved that he was an uncle. He loved his nephew, Ezarius, so much that he would talk about him daily, calling him “the little nephew”. What was even more special was that his little nephew shared his love for everything Toy Story.

Dalton loved his Auntie Melanie and Uncle Mike Cole. He always made sure to find them at any event they attended and would visit them.

He loved “family time” and was always looked forward to potlucks in Frazer. He loved all of his aunts and cousins and enjoyed teasing and just having fun with everyone especially at the fire pit at Grandma Rita’s.

Dalton had a special place in his heart for his maternal grandfather, Mike Talks Different. When Dalton was hospitalized after birth, his Grandpa Mike and Grandma Mari, would visit him and speak to him in the Assiniboine language. When he was older he took the Assiniboine language class in high school and then in college. He wanted to be fluent in the language and would send greetings to his Grandpa Mike and his Grandma Becky Standing Bear. I’m sure there were others. He also loved to sing traditional songs and was gifted a few hand drums from his Grandpa Mike and Grandma Mari.  He loved singing and practiced every day. He mentioned his Uncle Ron Doney many times and often said he wanted to sing like him and his Grandpa Mike. He was just getting to know his Uncle Bill Runs Above and wanted to sing songs that Bill sang. He had a few songs that he liked and learned to sing from an Eagle Whistles CD that he was gifted.

Dalton was a respectful young man and loved all of his grandma’s and grandpa’s. He made sure to check on his Grandma Thelma Blount when they’d visit in Frazer.

Dalton is survived by his mother, Ada; his brothers, William and Taylor; Grandfather Mike Talks Different of Harlem, Grandmother Shirley Flynn of Frazer, Grandmother Marietta Fourbear of Brockton, Grandmother Becky (Ted) Standing Bear, Grandma Agnes Johnston; Aunt, Dori, Tisha, Shelly (Monte), Carrie of Frazer, Elisha of Wolf Point, Valerie (Bill) and family, Kelly (Andy) and family, Mariel and family, of Fort Belknap, Marlene Beston (Yancey) and family of Frazer, Ona Windchief (Chris), Sarelle Escarcega (Tom) and family, Loni Blount Jones and family, Delane Blount and family, Carol Wallette (Karl) and family, Vicki Dahl (Tom) and family,  Melanie Blount-Cole (Mike) and family, Nadine Decoteau and family, Sandra White Eagle and family, Denise Garfield and family, Jobeth Johnston and family, Crissy Hamilton and family, Danna Runs Above and family, Uncles Torrey Flynn and family, George Blount III (Candy) and family, Robin Blount Sr., Tom Blount, Novy (Michelle) Blount and family, Joe and Cicely Raining Bird; his nephew Ezarius of Great Falls; his cousins, Secret of Portland, Oregon, Tessa (Jaron), Michael, Kourtney (Shilo) of Miles City, Shelby (Jason), Steve, Juellz, Sydney, Kelby, Shaedel; nephews and nieces, Jaedyn, AnaLayna, Keilyn, Brianna, Colten, Jaron, Jacoby, Jasper, Reese, Preston, Gemma, Michael Jr., Aubree, Shyla, Hannah and Asher, Liam, Paxton and the Williams, Flynn, Adams and Archdale families.
